ABOUT THE BOOK THE FILM IS BASED ON
Richard Moore’s book Slaying the Badger is an incomparably detailed and highly revealing tale of cycling’s most extraordinary rivalry between American Greg LeMond and Frenchman Bernard Hinault. The book recreates the 1986 Tour de France, a race widely considered among cycling’s historians to be the best ever Tour de France.
In Slaying the Badger, award-winning author Richard Moore traces each story line of the 1986 Tour de France to its source through innumerable interviews—not only with LeMond and Hinault in their own homes but also with teammates, rivals, race directors, journalists, sponsors, and promoters. Told from these many perspectives, the alliances, tirades, and broken promises divulged in Slaying the Badger build to the stunning climax of the 1986 Tour de France.

ALL WE KNOW ABOUT THE FILM
The American publisher VeloPress was not involved with the film production, though we are pleased to have enjoyed it and are happy to spread the word about the film on this official book website slayingthebadger.com.
In April 2014, ESPN premiered the first-ever film production of the 1986 Tour de France at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film version of Slaying the Badger is an ESPN production. ESPN acquired the film rights from the book’s UK publisher, so VeloPress isn’t really involved (except that we’re big fans of the book, Richard Moore, Greg LeMond, Bernard Hinault, and many of the fascinating characters in the book).
In response to many eager questions we’ve received, here’s what VeloPress has learned about the film. Please be aware that VeloPress provides this information as a courtesy to our readers; we’re not connected to the film, though we do hope it succeeds, especially if that helps us sell some more copies of the book we’ve published since 2012!
